What is Cocaine?

Cocaine is a type of a stimulant drug that was derived from leaves of the coca plant, which is mostly found in Central and South America. The leaves undergo several chemical processes in order to manufacture the cocaine drug. Cocaine and crack are both metabolized quickly and leave the body (urine) within 2 to 4 days after being used.

When smoked or injected, cocaine produces a rapid and intense high and gives users a lot of energy very quickly. It is often described as a “rush” because of how fast the euphoria kicks in. When snorted, the high of cocaine is less intense because it takes a little longer to build up in the brain.

People using cocaine may feel very alert and excited, but it can also cause irritation, paranoia and anxiety. After the high feeling has passed, people tend to feel a physical and emotional crash, which is characterized by exhaustion and depression.
