What is Tricyclic Antidepressants?

Tricyclic antidepressants, or TCAs, are a class of medications that is used to treat depression and other similar disorders. This particular class of drugs has some very serious interactions with other medications, which can cause very serious complications and even death. TCAs can be detected in the urine for around 24 to 48 hours after the last dose.

TCAs are used to treat depression and other similar diseases, such as bipolar disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Sometimes they can be used to treat chronic pain disorders.

TCAs relieve the symptoms of depression by changing chemical messengers in the brain. Other side effects include blurred vision, constipation, dry mouth, drop in blood pressure or urine retention.

TCAs can cause drowsiness, which can be dangerous in certain jobs, like drivers or machine operators. In addition, TCAs can cause some serious drug interactions, so it can be important to determine quickly whether a patient is taking one of these medications.
